UN Women will be hosting a global art exhibition and online auction in New York City. ‘A Force for Change’ will showcase renowned Black women artists from across the world, including the Caribbean. The Art Exhibition and Auction also serve as the launch of the UN Women Afro-descendant Women’s Programme, which is designed to strengthen women’s resilience in Africa and the African diaspora by addressing the intersections of race and gender-based discrimination. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to the artists, while the other fifty percent will support implementation of the UN Women’s Afro-descendant Women’s Programme.
As part of the launch activities, UN Women MCO-Caribbean, in collaboration with UNESCO and NYU Africa House will host a discussion entitled ‘“Ain’t I a Woman”: Black Women, Creativity and Freedom’ on Monday 26 July 2021 at 1:00pm EDT. The discussion will celebrate and explore Afro-descendent women’s contribution to creative and cultural industries, global social movements, while highlighting the importance of Afro-descendant women’s role in sustainable development.
35-minute discussion between moderator and discussants. The discussion will be hosted on the Zoom platform and advertised on social media for registration but can also be cast as live on Facebook pages for amplification of the discussion as agreed.
