On the occasion of the 76th Session of the General Assembly, the Global Campaign for Equality in Family Law, in partnership with the World Bank Group’s Women, Business and the Law project and the Government of Sri Lanka, will hold an interactive panel discussion to mobilize global action on the urgent necessity of family law reform to end discrimination against women and accelerate women’s empowerment. As the global community moves forward to build back better amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the key to unlocking global and sustainable social and economic rebuilding and recovery lies in women's right to equality and justice within the family. Equality in family law allows women to have better economic and financial opportunities, empowering them to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. There can be no equality in the public sphere without equality in the private sphere of the family. This event will serve as an opportunity to identify opportunities and challenges and showcase strategies to accelerate progressive family law reforms in the current context.
